Strážky Castle
Strážky Castle
Strážky Castle – a combination of art, history, and tranquility under the Tatras
Strážky Castle is among the most beautiful Renaissance castles in Slovakia, but its strength lies not in its monumentality, but in its atmosphere. It is situated in a peaceful environment by the Poprad River, surrounded by an English park, making it an ideal place for a slower, cultural type of trip.
Here, architecture from Gothic to Classicism, artistic collections, and nature meet in one place. The castle is now part of the Slovak National Gallery and functions as both a gallery and a historical site at the same time.
What makes Strážky Castle exceptional
- a combination of a castle, a church, and a bell tower as one historical unit
- authentic artistic exhibitions (not just "empty rooms")
- a vast English park with a relaxing atmosphere
- a strong connection to art and culture, not just noble life

Adults and lovers of history and art
The permanent exhibitions are among the main reasons to visit and have a distinctly artistic character:
- historical furniture and artistic crafts – examples of period furnishings (porcelain, glass, furniture, clocks)
- portrait art from the 17th to 19th century in Spiš – family galleries and significant figures of the region
- Strážky and Ladislav Mednyánszky – the most important part of the exhibition dedicated to the painter associated with the castle
- historical library – approximately 8,500 volumes, maps, and documents with a tradition of over 400 years
- Slovak sculpture of the 20th century – outdoor gallery in the park
These exhibitions not only show the life of the nobility but especially the development of art and culture in the Spiš region.
